Teaching English in Xiamen, China

Located at the southeast coast of China, Xiamen is a tourist city of Fujian Province famous for its attractive seascape. As one of the major seaports since ancient times, Xiamen means ‘Gateway to China’. As one of the forerunners of the special economic zones of China, Xiamen mainly consists of Xiamen Island, Gulangyu Island, the north bank area of the Jiulong River and Tong'an County. Xiamen has been called ‘The Egret Island’ because of the hundreds of thousands of egrets which inhabit the area. The area has exquisite beautiful natural scenery, clean air and an excellent environment.

The city of Xiamen was very recently voted as China's cleanest city and has many tourist attractions. Xiamen and the surrounding countryside provide stunning scenery and pleasing tree-lined beaches. Piano Island, is a popular and tranquil weekend getaway which offers incredible views of the city and features many Victorian-era style European hideaways. Xiamen's Botanical Garden is one of the best in Asia. Nanputuo, a Buddhist temple, is known through-out China and dates back to the Tang Dynasty.

Amoy is the local dialect, which is widely used and understood across the southern region of Fujian province as well as overseas. While it is widely spoken in and around Xiamen, you will also be able to learn Chinese Mandarin in the city. Xiamen is famous for South Music, Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, puppet show, Gezi Opera and temple celebration events.

Shopping, night markets, bazaars, city parks, dining and entertainment are wide and varied, giving you the teacher lots to see and do throughout your year in this wonderful and unique city of Xiamen!

The Job

There is a comprehensive In-service training program that includes regular observations, workshops and one-on-one coaching. The school offers a teacher resource library with over 500 separate EFL titles, hundreds of flashcards, worksheets, posters, videos, and an electronic resources file to make your life as a teacher easier. The Salary Package

For teachers who have a degree, a teaching certificate and at least one year's experience: 6,500RMB for the first three months and then 7,000RMB for the rest of the contract.

A second year teacher will get 7,500RMB per month

A third year teacher will get 8,000RMB per month
